ISDP 2023

From 26-28 July, the DPB-lab visited the conference of the International Society of Developmental Psychobiology (ISDP). It was hosted in Utrecht, which resulted in easy travelling for our colleagues. Around 200 developmental psychobiologists visited the hybrid conference. Recent exciting findings were presented in talks and poster sessions, and ideas to move the field further were discussed (such as the need for theory, next to exploratory work).

Our own DPB research was shared via poster sessions. Nina Bruinhof presented two projects, one on mother-infant stress contagion, which looked at the effects of a maternal stressor on caregiving behavior and infant response. Her other project was about moment-to-moment relations between maternal milk cortisol and infant behavior. From the same SMILEY cohort, Hellen presented the findings from a laboratory experiment that examined stress-related eating in pregnancy. Nicole shared her findings of the GO Baby study about the benefits of infant carrying and walking with the infant in a green environment. Lastly, Stefania Vacaru’s recent findings comparing hair cortisol levels between the BIBO cohort and a similar USA cohort were presented by Anna Parenteau, from the Social Environment and Stress (SES) Lab.

It was great fun to finally meet colleagues in real life again after a long time of online meetings and share research insights and ideas over lunch and dinner.
