NinO Study
Nieuw in Opvang
Infants attend centre-based care at a young age in many western European countries, where they have to adapt to a new situation and the absence of their parents. Accordingly, previous research found increased cortisol concentrations in 3-month-olds during the first weeks at centre-based care (CBC), suggesting that the transition can produce changes in stress hormones. In the NinO studie, we follow 3-month-olds throughout their first two months in Dutch centre-care institutions, and study the role of proximity and closeness during their transition. We assess effects on stress-related measures, such as cortisol, gut microbiota and behavioural reports.
