Esmee Breddels – PhD Student

Esmee Breddels

Early life stress has a negative effect on the development of the child with long-term consequences up to adult life. There are effective interventions available to help the child form a healthy stress response system, but these are not yet used adequately. During my PhD, I will focus on the mechanisms of early life stress and its consequences on health and development. First, I will look for risk and protective factors of early life stress. Next, I will develop a tool to predict which children are at risk of early life stress and its adverse events.
